Inside the Studio.
Lately, I've been building a notebook of my visual language. Somewhere along the way, I realized I was creating a studio style guide.
It began by recognizing that I wasn't just mixing colors—I was developing a signature palette. From there, I started writing down each mixture and how I arrived at it, so I could return to it. The final step was giving each color a name. Instead of thinking that blue or the gray with a little green, I can think, This painting needs New England Gray.
What I'm really creating is a vocabulary.
By making these decisions once, I free myself to focus on what matters most: the language of the painting. The relationships between shapes. What belongs. What can be taken away. How a few simple forms become something quietly meaningful.
